WiRED International Observes American Heart Month
BY ALLISON KOZICHAROW AND BERNICE BORN
February is American Heart Month. This Valentine’s Day give the gift of heart health to family and friends by committing to a healthy lifestyle and by learning how to keep your heart healthy.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. The best prevention is for people to eat a healthy diet, maintain a healthy weight, stay physically active, avoid stress, abstain from tobacco and limit alcohol use.
WiRED International’s Health Learning Center offers many modules on heart health and disease – all available online at no cost. WiRED’s library contains modules and module series on topics such as heart diseases, echocardiographic diagnosis of rheumatic heart disease (RHD), RHD training, heartburn, hypertension and normal and abnormal heart sounds in children. In addition WiRED provides an RHD animation and a series on anatomy, which discusses the heart and circulatory system.
A healthy heart begins with small changes which lead to wholesome habits and a lifetime of heart health. Make heart health a priority this month and every month.
