WiRED International’s board and volunteers wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. This is an American holiday, begun nearly 400 years ago, when immigrants and indigenous people joined in a harvest celebration. Since then, each November, we have embraced the spirit of sharing. While we give thanks for the blessings in our lives, we also remember the people in need who live in our own communities and around the world.
We are mindful that the cost of a single lunch in the United States would buy a high protein meal for 20 children in many of the low-resource communities we serve globally. This Thanksgiving, we humbly suggest budgeting a little less for our Thanksgiving meals and sharing the savings to feed others.
Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to take a moment to reflect and plan on how we can use our time, talents and resources to help people who face hunger, dislocation and illness. To everyone who has made our programs possible, and to everyone who has used them to improve their own health and the health of their communities, we at WiRED send you our sincere best wishes during this season of thanks.
