Hillary Fiona Owuor
illary Fiona Owuor values WiRED’s health training program. This young woman studies WiRED’s health education modules at the Kisumu Urban Apostolate Programmes (KUAP) Pandipieri Center in Kisumu, an underserved region in Western Kenya.
Ms. Owuor wrote in her testimonial: “After I finished my secondary studies, it was such a relief to hear that there were WiRED health modules I could study on the computer — and that I could study for free!”
In particular, Ms. Owuor studied modules on HIV/AIDS, which she feels is the most pressing health issue in her community. “Now I am more informed, and I can care for the sick, take precautions and know what to do if conditions worsen.”
Ms. Owuor joins the list of thousands who have benefitted from WiRED’s 400+ module e-library program in Kenya. She concluded, “Thank you, WiRED, for giving me the opportunity to access health information and educate myself to help people in my community live healthy lives.”
The KUAP Pandipieri Center
The KUAP Pandipieri Center is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of the community. Its health program provides clinical services for general health issues (including medicine, vaccinations and screenings) and refers people to a hospital when additional care is needed. It also offers food for malnourished children and then monitors their progress with routine weigh-ins and discussions with caregivers about proper nutrition. WiRED’s Learning Center library, which is stored on computers within the clinic, provides information about nutrition for children. Its training programs are available to the children and to their caregivers as well as to all members of the Kisumu community. Sister Bernadette Nealon, a Franciscan nun, directs the Center’s health program, and Lillian Dajoh coordinates WiRED’s programs (see earlier story). Staff members include Alice Olwino (a Center nurse) and Jenipher Muhanji (the Center’s program officer for child assistance programs).
