Dehydration is the loss of water and body salts through diarrhea, vomit, sweat, urine and breathing. Dehydration happens when a person doesn't drink enough water and electrolytes to make up for the amount that was lost. The treatment of dehydration is called "rehydration" (replacing lost fluids).
