Diagnostic tools help identify what ails patients and what keeps them healthy.
WiRED International now offers an Essential Diagnostic Tools Module, based on World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. The module will be useful to people working in clinics in low-resource regions — especially to community health workers (CHWs) taking WiRED’s upcoming CHW training program.
In May 2018, WHO issued recommendations that recognize that in vitro diagnostics advance universal health coverage, address health emergencies and promote healthier populations. In vitro diagnostics are tests done on samples such as blood or tissue that have been taken from the human body. These tests can detect diseases or other conditions, and can be used to monitor a person’s overall health to help cure, treat or prevent diseases. WHO’s guidelines are called “Essential In Vitro Diagnostics.”
WiRED’s Essential Diagnostic Tools Module covers information on 12 laboratory tests on such health fundamentals as hemoglobin, blood cell count, glucose and blood typing. The module explains the purposes of the tests, sample collection and normal values for test results.
WiRED believes that its module will strengthen the skills of health professionals in clinics and in the field and provide vital evidence-based guidance in improving the health of underserved communities.
You can download the modules mentioned in this story, and all 400+ of WiRED’s health modules, through WiRED’s Health Module Access Program (HealthMAP) by clicking here. This easy-to-use free program will enable you to create your own customized collection of health learning modules. You can learn more about HealthMAP through WiRED's animation.
